Tim Moore is not for reading in public due to sudden outbursts of laughter. The first book of his I read in 2004 titled "Travels with my Donkey" about he and a donkey walking the French Camino. I was plagued by the idea of walking it, without a donkey, for 15 years until I journeyed to France and Spain to make the pilgrimage in 2019. This travelogue follows him retracing the 1914 Giro d'iltalia in Italy and I have no desire to complete that but that didn't dampen my enjoyment of the book any.

Tim rebuilds an almost original bike from the 1914 race complete with wooden rims and cork brakes. A daring feat considering the severity of the Italian Alps. The 1914 race of near 3200 km was catastrophic with only 8 finishers of the original 81 starters.

Although I won't be heading off to bike around Italy anytime soon, it was a way to cycle the Giro vicariously.
